P9 M paid crop insurance claims to Central Luzon farmers
The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation Regional Office No. III (PCIC) paid P9-million crop insurance assistance to thousands of farmers in the region whose crops were destroyed during the onslaught of typhoon Juan last October, 2010.
A total of 1,103 farmers representing farmer groups, cooperatives, lending institutions and NGOs from the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan and Tarlac received their insurance claims on November 22, 2010 at the PCIC regional office.
PCIC regional manager Romeo G. Gonzales said farmers from Bulacan received P3.83 million, while those in Pampanga received P1.18 million. Farmers from Tarlac, on the other hand, received P4.54 million.
“This is the benefit derived from having their crops insured. Our farmers should now realize the importance of insurance. Without insurance farmers have lesser hope in recovering their losses when natural calamities strike,” Gonzales said.
PCIC president Atty. Jovy C. Bernabe, thanked the farmers for availing the agency’s services and promised to continue extending the best services to them. Also present were PCIC Acting SVP Norman R. Cajucom, CRB Bulacan First VP Peter Nabong representing PCIC-BOD Nestor Custodio, PCIC Acting VP Segundo H. Guerrero Jr., and the 48 farmers representing 18 coops and rural banks.
