Regional Office 6 distributed ₱4.3 Million worth of indemnity checks to 553 seaweed farmers from the municipality of Caluya, Antique. Indemnity was prompted by strong rains and floods which damaged their seaweed farms.

“We can’t predict natural calamities that may affect our produce,” PCIC Extension Office – Antique Head Clogene Galuego, who led the distribution activity, said. “I encourage you to ensure your crops 15 days after planting and report damages, if any, within 3 days so that PCIC personnel can conduct validation, and process indemnity.”

In response, farmer-beneficiaries thanked PCIC, as the indemnity will help them recover from losses.

“Ang damage po sa akin ay ‘yung tanim po na tambalang (seaweed variety), nagpapasalamat po ako sa insurance ng PCIC, malaking tulong po ito para makapagsimula ulit,” Aireen Fabraun, one of the beneficiaries, said.
