Regional Office 12 (RO 12) staff, led by OIC-Regional Manager Gracia Salloman planted some 300 mangrove propagules or saplings in the Kantungan Eco Park in the municipality of Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
This activity is part of the regional Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of the PCIC and contributes to the municipality’s comprehensive plan on environmental protection and conservation.
Before the planting, the PCIC employees listened to mangrove specialist, Arnold “Batoy” Astrolabio Sr., as he conducted an orientation on the more or less 30 varieties of mangrove trees available in the country and emphasized the environmental significance of maintaining and enhancing mangrove forests.
Mangroves prevent soil erosion and slow down storm surge; it is an excellent measure for environmental conservation and enhancement, as well as disaster risk management.
The PCIC staff was assisted by the staff of the Lebak’s Municipal Environment and Natural Resource Office.
