More subsistence coconut farmers should take advantage of the free crop insurance under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
This was emphasized by Regional Office 11 Manager Rosalina Grabulan during the Mindanao-Wide Coconut Farmers Cooperative Summit held on November 25-26, 2024 at the SMX Convention in Lanang, Davao City.
“With the CFIDP-AIP (agriculture insurance program), coconut farmers’ livelihood is protected,” Grabulan said. “They can also replant quickly in case trees are struck by natural calamities, pests and diseases.” With crop insurance, coconut farmers are not only protected from risks but also help ensure the sustainability of the coconut industry which is vital for food security and rural development.
Subsistence coconut farmers who are registered in the National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS), can avail of the free insurance. Grabulan presented PCIC’s various programs and the benefits cooperative members can have under the CFITF-AIP. She also highlighted the accomplishments of the PCIC Mindanao Sector.
During the event, RO 11 operated a booth where farmers could inquire about PCIC programs. They can take program brochures, ask PCIC representatives regarding the programs and fill insurance application forms.
The coconut summit was spearheaded by the Cooperative Development Authority XI (CDA XI) with the presence of CDA Chairman, Undersecretary Joseph Encabo, CDA Administrator Santiago Lim, CFIDP Implementing Agencies, DA XI Regional Executive Director Macario Gonzaga, and delegates from Regions 9 to 13, and BARMM.
