CEBU CITY – To achieve its goal of expanding the agricultural insurance program of the government, PCIC sealed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Cebu Provincial Government to provide free crop insurance coverage to marginalized farmers and fisherfolk of Cebu.  Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and PCIC President Jovy Bernabe signed the agreement witnessed by PCIC Directors Dioscoro Granada, Alex Suarez, and Epifanio Maniebo on October 1, 2014.

The Cebu government provided P8 Million to subsidize the premium payments of farmers for the insurance coverage of their rice, corn, high value commercial crops, livestocks, fisheries and non-crop agricultural assets.  The program will result to the agricultural insurance coverage of around 30,000 subsistence farmers and fisherfolk in Cebu.
