The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation and the provincial government of Negros Occidental agreed to provide subsidy for agricultural insurance for farmers and fisherfolk.

This, after PCIC President Jovy Bernabe and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Lacson signed a memorandum of agreement in the Governor’s Office on April 14, 2021.

“We at the PCIC thank the provincial government led by Gov. Lacson for their support to the corporation and in making crop insurance more accessible to farmers and fisherfolk in the province,” President Bernabe said. ”Local executives are our important partners in ensuring crops and other agricultural projects are protected and that farmers can recoup their investments in case a natural disaster occurs.”

Under the agreement, the provincial government will provide an additional ₱20 Million to the PCIC. This amount will be used to subsidize the insurance premiums under the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP).

The NFUCIP, now on its 10th year, is a joint initiative of the provincial government and PCIC to insure agricultural crops in the province.

”The insurance program is such a big help to our farmers and fisherfolk in the province for they are the most vulnerable to climate change, pest and diseases manifestations and other natural calamity,” Negros Occidental Provincial Agriculturist., lawyer Japhet Masculino, said.

Masculino and PCIC Regional Office 6 Manager Eva Ulie Laud were presnt in the signing and expressed their support for the agreement
