The Board of Directors of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) recently held its monthly Board Meeting in Calamba, Laguna. Laguna was one of the provinces worst hit by Tropical Storm Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng. In addition to the regular agenda of the Board Meeting, the Board of Directors decided to have the Board Meeting in Laguna to personally hand over indemnity checks to farmers, farmer’s groups, cooperatives, etc. PCIC handed over a total of PHP3,317,877.00 to various claimants in Region 4.
Atty. Jovy Bernabe, President of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the PCIC, in his message, urged the farmers to encourage others who are not yet covered by PCIC to avail of the Insurance Packages offered by PCIC. He said that with the typhoons getting unpredictable and erratic and its effects worse, crop insurance is becoming more significant than ever. With crop insurance, the farmers would again be able to plant their crops without worries of where to get the needed capital to plant again.
Also present during the awarding of indemnity checks were Acting Senior Vice President-Regional Manager Group, Mr. Norman Cajucom, Asec. Eduardo Nolasco of the Department of Agriculture (representing Sec. Arthur Yap who serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of PCIC), Dir. David Villanueva (representing the Visayas Farmers Group), Dir. Apipa Marohombsar (representing the Mindanao Farmers Group), and Dir. Fidel Cu (representing the Private Insurance Sector).
