The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), the state owned agri-insurance corporation, initially distributed twenty one (21) indemnity checks in the amount of P268,364.00 to Brgy. Adlaon corn farmers whose crops were damaged by series of typhoons last year namely: Queenie, Ruby and Seniang.

The indemnity checks were distributed on February 26, 2015 in coordination with Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, City Agriculturist Joey Baclayon, CAFC Chair Emilio Secretaria, Farmer Leader Elesio Cantano, ABC President Philip Zafra, Brgy. Adlaon Chairman Elvis Narra, PCIC Vice President-CBAG of PCIC Antonio S. Uy II and Regional Manager-RO VII of PCIC Crescencio V. Deligero, Jr. at the Mayor’s Office Conference Room.

The above mentioned corn farmer-claimants were insured by PCIC under its Free Insurance Coverage for farmer-beneficiaries listed under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).

The Free Insurance Scheme under the RSBSA is extended until this year 2015 with 921,606 farmers/fisherfolk listed regionwide.  Cebu province has the highest number of beneficiaries with 401,048 farmers, followed by Bohol and Negros (255,839 & 244,613, respectively), and Siquijor with 20,106 farmer-beneficiaries.
