Eighteen (18) swine farmers from M’lang town in North Cotabato received on February 15, 2022 ₱654,650 worth of indemnity checks from the PCIC Regional Office 12.
The distribution was carried out at the Municipal Agriculture Office grounds.
The indemnity resulted from the the culling of hogs that were affected by African Swine Fever.
Marcela N. Arangote, a senior citizen claimant from Brgy. Dalipe said she was thankful for the indemnity, and she plans to reinvest it in hog raising once the local government allows it. Ms. Arangote received over ₱21,000 for her three culled hogs.
M’lang Mayor Russel Abonado, who attended the check distribution activity, explained that the only way to eradicate the ASF virus was to put down all the hogs until it becomes safe to repopulate the hog industry.
PCIC 12 Regional Manager Marissa F. Agudera led the distribution. Also in attendance were Provincial Veterinarian Rufino Sorupia and OIC Municipal Agriculturist Charles Boliver.
