Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar presided over the release of indemnity checks worth a total of over P3.86 Million to 763 farmers and fisherfolk in Western Visayas enrolled under the insurance programs of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC)on December 8 last year. Secretary Dar was assisted by the PCIC President Jovy C. Bernabe and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson. PCIC provides free insurance coverage to farmers and fisherfolk listed under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), currently the most comprehensive listing of agricultural producers in the country. The check distribution formed part of the ceremony launching the Cash and Food Subsidy Program in the region, a social protection component of the Stimulus Package for Agriculture, held in Panaad Park, Bacolod City.
