Kailangang-kailangan namin ang Crop Insurance dito sa Palawan.  This is how Gov. Jose Ch. Alvarez of the Province of Palawan described the need for crop insurance in the Province during the Cacao Mortality Insurance Policy Issuance and Indemnity check distribution held at the Palawan Provincial Capitol last February 18, 2015.  Governor Alvarez thanked Atty. Jovy C. Bernabe, PCIC President, for coming to the province even before his thought of inviting him came to his mind.  For his part, Atty. Bernabe assured the Governor that the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation will always be on hand to give protection to the farmers whose crops will be affected by natural calamities and pest and diseases brought by the effects of climate change.  Pres. Bernabe further informed the Governor and the audience that PCIC is offering free insurance protection to farmers listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture.

The highlight of the occasion was the signing of the initial Cacao Insurance Policy worth P13 Million to 254 cacao farmers.  To follow are additional farmers of the province to complete the P300 Million loan granted by the LandBank of the Philippines to the Provincial Government of Palawan.  Pres. Bernabe issued the policy which Governor Alvarez gladly accepted in behalf of the Cacao farmers.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Efifanio Maniebo, member of the PCIC Board of Director, LandBank Lending Center Manager Joel Babaan and Provincial Livelihood Coordinator Dr. Myrna Lacanilao.  Some Provincial government employees and PCIC Regional Office staff Armando G. Novero, Xerxes V. Garcia and Emmylou T. PAscual also witnessed the affair.

In the same event, PCIC Region 4 awarded indemnity checks amounting to P4.312 Million to 517 Farmers whose crops were damaged by drought and plant pests and diseases.

PCIC Regional Manager Pablo P. Rocela and the Provincial Government Corn Production In-Charge Mr. Arleen Valera coordinated with each other to make the affair a successful one.
