For PCIC’s agricultural insurance program to succeed, it needs the support of various stakeholders—municipal agriculturists, local government officials including barangay leaders—especially in reaching more farmers and fisherfolk.
This was the message of Regional Office 8 Marketing and Sales Chief Benita Alberto during an orientation on PCIC products and services for stakeholders. These were attended by local chief executives, municipal agriculturists, agricultural technicians, barangay chairpersons, and councilors, particularly those serving in the Committee on Agriculture. They came from the municipalities of Naval, Kawayan, Almeria, Culaba, Caibiran, Biliran, and Cabucgayan, in the province of Biliran.
The orientations were done from February 4 to 19, 2025, at different venues arranged by the local government units through their respective Offices of the Municipal Agriculturist.
“Coordination among PCIC, LGU/DA counterparts and the barangay officials is essential in increasing awareness and participation in PCIC’s agricultural insurance program, especially among our subsistence farmers and fisherfolk,” Alberto, who led the orientation sessions, said. “Municipal Agriculturists and barangay leaders serve as the bridge between PCIC and the farmers. They are instrumental in disseminating information on how potential clients can avail our crop insurance programs.”
