Farmers of Palawan and Marinduque affected by the El Niño phenomenon received indemnity for their losses from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in ceremonies held in Puerto Princesa City on July 18, 2024.
President Marcos was in Palawan to bring financial aid to farmers and fishers in Palawan and Marinduque.
“Since the drought started early this year, we prioritized the processing of claims so we can help the farmers,” RO 4 Manager Ric Gregorio said. “Our PEOs (PCIC Extension Offices) in Palawan penetrated island municipalities to offer free insurance services under the RSBSA program, since marginalized farmers/fishers are the most vulnerable to natural calamities, pests and disease.”
As of July 18, 2024, the province of Palawan has 17,521 farmers and fisherfolk enjoying free insurance coverage amounting to ₱19.23 Million in government premium subsidy. RO 4 has already paid 1,323 farmers/claimants with a total of ₱16.58 Million in indemnity due to the long dry spell.
