President Duterte awards indemnity checks to Taal evacuees

President Rodrigo Duterte awarded indemnity checks to five livestock owners who were among those affected by the recent Taal Volcano eruption.

The event took place during the president’s visit with evacuees at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines campus in Sto. Tomas, Batangas on 20 January 2020.

The livestock owners were insured by the PCIC; they received a total of P54,000.

In his brief remarks, President Duterte emphasized the benefits of crop insurance.   “Now farmers need to insure their crops and livestock,” he said.

Assisted by Agriculture Secretary William Dar, the president also distributed livelihood assistance, seeds, seedlings, farm machineries and other goods.

Also present during the awarding were Senator Christopher “Bong” Go,  other cabinet officials,  military officers and regional heads of government agencies.

PCIC records show that 15,450 farmers in the 17 municipalities within the 14-kilometer danger zone delineated by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology are insured.   They stand to receive some P179 Million in indemnity.
