PCIC conducts post-stocking validation in Ilocos Sur

The PCIC Region 1 Extension Office conducted post-stocking validation of 15 registered fishpond operators in the municipality of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur, on June 30, 2019.

This validation is one of the prerequisites in their application for fisheries insurance. Among the fish they cultivate are Milk fish (bangus), Nile Tilapia (tilapia) and shrimp (bingalo).

During the validation, insurance underwriters Sherwin Dannog and Christian Quijencio and fisheries coordinator Marlon Ragunton witnessed the release of fingerlings and interviewed the owners on their compliance on good fishery production practices.

“We are pleased that fish growers have great awareness on and implement good production practices,” Mr. Dannog said.

For their part, the fish growers affirmed their desire to avail of the insurance for fisheries being offered by the PCIC. With the insurance, they have peace of mind that they can recoup their investment, in case disaster happens.
