On 20 January 2021, thirty-three seaweed farmers  from Escalante City,  Negros Occidental received checks worth ₱272,395 as indemnity from Ariel Batuigas and Jazzel Garsula of PCIC Regional Office 6. Their seaweed farms were destroyed by typhoon Odette. Escalante Vice Mayor Jojo Gabriel encouraged them to continue availing themselves of the PCIC’s free insurance program.  PCIC subsidizes in full the insurance coverage of farmers and fisherfolk listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture.
