Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. handed over to PCIC President Jovy C. Bernabe a check amounting to P5 Million to fund the Expanded Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP) on November 14, 2013 in Bacolod City, witnessed by DA Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food Chairwoman Cynthia A. Villar.
The fund will be used to pay the crop insurance premium of Negros Occidental farmers engaged in rice, corn and high value crops farming, and livestock and fish production.
During the event, PCIC Pres. Bernabe also awarded to Gov. Marañon P458,048 worth indemnity checks representing claims payment for 180 NFUCIP farmer-beneficiaries whose rice crops were damaged by recent calamities and pest and disease infestation.
