Farmers to gain better insurance coverage under PCIC SSS partnership

The PCIC and the Social Security System (SSS) will work together to ensure farners have agriculture insurance and social security protection.

This, after the two government corporations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will increase farmers and fishers’ access to benefits from the SSS. These include sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, death and funeral benefits.

The MOU was signed at the President’s Board Room, SSS Main Office East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.

Under the MOU, the PCIC will include social security protection in the orientations they conduct for farmers, fisherfolk and other agricultural workers, refer SSS to cooperatives and farmer associations, provide training to SSS accredited partner agents who choose to be insurance underwriters, and provide agricultural insurance products and services to members of SSS-accredited partner agencies.

On the other hand, the SSS is tasked to refer PCIC to its existing and prospective accredited partner agencies, provide information materials, present its services to farmers within PCIC orientation sessions, and encourage accredited partner agencies to establish a tie-up with the PCIC.

Aside from President Bernabe, PCIC Chairman Crisologo Ignacio, Director for Luzon Alex Suarez, Director for Visayas Juan Borra, Jr, Director for Mindanao Arnold Colama, SVP Antonio Uy, VP-SSG Segundo Gurerrero, VP-CBAG Romeo Salting, and OIC-BDMD Manuel Cortina were present during the signing.
