The Department of Agriculture, through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (DA-PCIC), has released some P14.6 Million to 1,470 farmers in the Province of Isabela in Region II. This is as initial payout for damages to farms due to strong wind, heavy rains and floods brought by the twin typhoons Pedring and Quiel that hit the country during the last week of September.
Present during the awarding of indemnity checks were DA Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, PCIC President Jovy C. Bernabe and Isabela Governor Faustino ‘Bogie’ G. Dy III. The awarding happened during the Regional Consultation With Rice Farmers and Irrigator’s Association that was held at the NIA-MARIIS Compound in Cauayan in Isabela last 19 October 2011.
The PCIC Region II Manager Edna SP. Marallag and staff are currently expediting the release of the remaining indemnity payments to the affected farmers in Region II. We are fast-tracking these indemnity payments to enable particularly rice and corn farmers to recover their losses and re-plant again, PCIC President Bernabe said.
