The Department of Agriculture, through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (DA-PCIC), has released some P4.3 Million to 358 farmers in the Province of Bulacan in Region III. This is as initial payout for damages to farms due to strong wind, heavy rains and floods brought by the twin typhoons Pedring and Quiel that hit the country during the last week of September.

Present during the awarding of indemnity checks were DA Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, PCIC President Jovy C. Bernabe and Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice-Governor Daniel Fernando. The awarding happened during the Provincial Consultation With Rice Farmers and Irrigator’s Association that was held at the Hiyas Pavilion in the City of Malolos last 21 October 2011.

The PCIC Region III Manager Romeo G. Gonzales and staff are currently expediting the release of the remaining indemnity payments to the affected farmers in Region III. We are fast-tracking these indemnity payments to enable particularly rice and corn farmers to recover their losses and re-plant again, PCIC President Bernabe said.
