Indemnity from PCIC is a big help to farmers.
This was emphasized by Mr. Fernando Tasi, a beneficiary of the PCIC insurance program from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, in a recent radio interview.
“Para sa akin at mga kapwa ko farmer, sa pag-apply sa free insurance sa PCIC, agad kaming nagtutungo sa PCIC RO 2 upang mag-apply ng insurance sa oras na nakapagtanim na kami,” Tasi said in an interview during the radio program Usapang Agrikultura aired over DWPE Radyo Pilipinas Tuguegarao on February 25, 2025.
“Maging sa pag-file ng claim for indemnity, agad agad din kaya malaking pakinabang ang anumang bayad pinsala mula sa pamahalaan,” he added.
Mr. Tasi plants rice and corn, and has been insuring his crops under PCIC since 2013. He commended PCIC for quickly processing claims which he said helps farmers recover from losses.
“Yung mga farmers sa Tuguegarao, natutuwa sila sa PCIC dahil may nagiging katuwang ang mga farmers sa pagbangon dahil sa nasalanta sila ng kalamidad na nakasira sa kanilang pananim,” Tasi said. “Never kaming naka-experience na naging unfair ang PCIC dahil base sa guidelines talaga yung sinusunod nila sa kanilang assessment. Malaking tulog yung indemnity check nila dahil may pambili ng binhi at fertilizer.”
Cagayan is covered by PCIC Regional Office 2. Figures show that in 2024 more than 230,000 farmers in the province availed of agriculture insurance. More than 37,000 farmers were granted claims, with losses mainly caused by drought, typhoons and flood.
