The Local Government Unit of Alcala, Pangasinan will provide 100 percent premium subsidy for the accident insurance of the town’s subsistence farmers and fisherfolk.

Alcala Mayor Jojo Callejo on February 14, 2023 signed a Memorandum of Agreement on the matter with state insurer Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC),  which was represented by Regional Office 1 (RO 1) Manager Raul Servito.

Under the agreement, the Alcala LGU shall identify and organize subsistence farmers and fisherfolk listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).  With the LGU paying the insurance premiums, these farmers and fisherfolk will be given a free insurance under PCIC’s Accident and Dismemberment and Security Scheme (ADSS) program.

The ADSS is an insurance protection for agricultural producers, fisherfolk and other stakeholders that covers death or dismemberment or disablement of the insured due to accident.

Accident insurance helps the insured pay for medical and other out-of-pocket costs that may crop up after an accidental injury.

For its part,  PCIC shall provide orientation on the insurance policy and information materials to the LGU and regularly monitor and recommend improvements on the initiative.

“We thank the Alcala local government unit (LGU) for this partnership to provide protection for both farmers and fisherfolk and their investments,” Servito said.

In response, Mayor Callejo expressed gratitude to PCIC and said the agreement will benefit Alcala’s agriculture sector.

The MOA was signed in the presence of Alcala Municipal Agriculturist Merlita Tugas and PCIC RO1 Marketing and Sales Chief Marivic Amiscua.
