Aggie insurance highlighted in Ilocos Sur farmer’s summit
The Regional Office of the PCIC in the Ilocos Region assured farmers of the availability of agricultural insurance where and when it is needed during the Ilocos Sur Provincial Farmers’ Summit held recently in Candon, Ilocos Sur. The need for insurance protection for their crops has been identified as a top concern by the farmers.
PCIC Region I Insurance Underwriter Mercury Pascua presented and discussed the various subsidized agricultural insurance programs of the Corporation such as Regular Rice and Corn, RSBSA, DA-Sikat Saka, DA-PLEA & SURE, APCP& CAP-PBD, and Non-RSBSA insurance programs.
The summit was conducted on August 13 in two parts. The morning summit was conducted at the Sta. Cruz Sports Complex and attended by 1,500 farmers; the afternoon summit was held at Candon Covered Court and was attended by 1,200 farmers.
The summit aimed to facilitate accelerated access to the various services of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, Department of Agriculture, PCIC, Land Bank of the Philippines and Agricultural Credit Policy Council, and to intensify extension and marketing services through various modalities to improve the farming and fishery sectors.

Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson highlighted the importance of agricultural insurance protection to the farmers and fisherfolk, for the recovery of losses in their crops, livestock, and agricultural assets due to calamities and pest and diseases. The Governor also commended the PCIC Management and staff for their effort in conducting massive information caravans to educate the farmers and fisherfolk.
